Regardless of whether or not a teen has coded before, Teens UP (for university preparation) has something to offer those who have an interest in becoming fluent programmers for general websites and software applications. Teens, 13 and older, with no prior experience in real programming will do a bootcamp for a few months using Hatch Studio JS software in order to develop core programming competencies.
While teens completing the Teens UP bootcamp cover the same material as younger Hatch Prime students do, they begin to learn more complex, functional, parts of the programming process that we don't teach to younger students. For instance, even during the bootcamp portion of Teens UP, students learn how to export files to a repository (portfolio) of coding projects. As they continue on in Teens UP, they begin working with numerous different types of files and learn to publish projects to the web. In essence, Teens UP is all about having a greater degree of independence while developing general programming skills. As in Hatch Prime, this class pertains most to programming work that impacts user experience and design.
Teens who are interested in data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence should also enrol in Hatch Alpha as its focus is on writing programs for a different purpose and for a different audience.
