Hatch Studio is a student-centric teaching tool for learning computer programming skills and competencies. It presently encompasses two production studios: Studio JS and Studio P.
Still, Studio JS is normally the best place for novice programmers to begin.
It creates immediate visual outputs that help students as they are learning to write code.
Students choose projects that are of interest to them so that they are engaged in meaningful thought work.
Hatch Studio JS has over 600 projects in 26 learning levels that move students toward greater independence and expertise in requirements-based programming.
Projects are accompanied by thousands of Challenges—smaller requirements that constitute thought work.
There are 10 Challenge levels that are dynamically ranked based on student behaviour in the Hatch Studio universe: the more all students complete a specific Challenge, the more it is pushed toward a Level 1 rank.
A fun feature in Studio is Explore: it lets students upvote completed projects that they like.
